Hallo Birgit,

Erst einmal alles Gute im neuen Jahr, Gesundheit und natürlich viel Erfolg
für Deine Praxis und die Klinik in Trishuli :)..........

Momentan befinde ich mich schon wieder in Indien, in Varanasi. Morgen
starten die Teachings vom Dalai Lama, welche ich für eine paar Tage besuchen
möchte. Trishuli habe ich am 23. Dezember verlassen und was ich hier in
Indien wirklich vermisse ist die Sauberkeit auf den Strassen und die frische
Bergluft.
An meinem letzten Wochenende konnte Ramesh ein Dental Camp für 2 Tage
organisieren. Dies war wirklich ein Erfolg. Zu dritt behandelten wir 355
Patienten und ich denke es wurden rund 1000 Zähne extrahiert.

Weiterhin gab ich meinen ersten Englischunterricht zum Thema Ursachen von
Zahnerkrankungen, richtige Ernährung und Mundhygiene vor ca. 300
Schulkindern der Gemeinde. Es wurde viel gelacht und ich denke die meisten
Kinder haben verstanden warum ich den Erwachsenen so viele Zähne ziehen
musste. Unser Team wurde von einem Journalisten von AV News begleitet, so
das das Dental Camp in den folgenden Tagen in den Nationalen News zu sehen
war. Eine vernünftige Kopie konnte ich leider nicht organisieren, das ist
hier alles nicht so leicht.
Im Anhang befinden sich Ideen meinerseits, welche der Verbesserung des Dental Camps und der Klinik dienen. Hierbei habe ich meine Erfahrungen von meiner letzten Projekt (Ärzte für die Dritte Welt) auf den Philippinen einfließen lassen. Ramesh und Arun haben bereits eine Kopie erhalten. Ich hoffe meine Vorschläge können der Organisation weiterhelfen.

Meine Ausgaben für die Organisation beschränken sich zum einen auf die Utensilien und Materialien aus dem Dentallabor (15875 Rupien) sowie 200 Zahnbürsten und Zahnpasta für das Dental Camp (9312 Rupien). Der Umrechnungskurs betrug im Dezember ca. 103 Rupien pro 1 Euro.

    Suggestions for the improvement of
The Free Trishuli Dental Camp

Introduction

Below is a list of suggestions for use by The Free Trishuli Dental Camp to improve the valuable service that it provides to those within the Nepalise community affected by dental problems.

  Suggestions to be used by The free Dental Camp

The use of a plastic or metal box to transport medical supplies and sterlized equipment; to prevent cross infection and maintain a sterile enviroment for transportantion of medical supplies.

To use a plastic sheet over the tables where medical instruments are placed for hygiene purposes. The plastic will be a lot easier to clean with desinfectant spray. The towels that are currently in use carry a higher risk of cross infection potential.

The allocation of a metal or plastic tray to each dentist for the placement of instruments while treating patients.

For the camp to run more effectivley it would be better to employ an extra dental assistant (nurse), to be responsible for:

The sterilizing of equipment.

The distribution of medication to the  patient and the explanation of dossages and measures.

Advising the patient on the best recovery procedure for the post extraction period, i.e.;

No alcohol.
No cigarettes.
No black tea or coffee.
No flushing.
(for between 1 to 3 days depending on each case)

At the camp it is advised to bring also scalers.

More sharp spoons are needed to clean out the alveole after extraction, and additionally at least 10 more sharp spoons are required.

General suggestions for the Trishuli Dental Clinic

For best results in communicating to the public in dental health care issues it would be best to post a number of posters (or paintings) promoting:

Dental diseases

Dental prevention measures, for example brushing the teeth or mouth wash.

Better placement of the sign that states the name of the clinic, the organisation and its donors.

The fixure of a sign advertising the clinic on the main road.

The placement of rubbish bins outside the dental clinic with the words `"Please use me" and
"Please keep this area clean".

It is suggested that plastic film or cling film is used within the drawers used to store dental surgical equipment. It is also suggested that the draw is cleaned at least once a week.

It would also be advised to have a collection of information books and leaflets within the waiting room for the patients to read while waiting for treatment.
